We are now approaching the end of the ‘Duffy’s Portmarnock Service Station’ Winter League 2017 Competition. Unfortunately, this year we have been badly affected by adverse weather conditions and have lost 9 weekends due to frost or rain delays (25/26 Nov, 9/10 Dec, 16/17 Dec, 23/24 Dec, 13/14 Jan, 20/21 Jan, 3/4 Feb, 10/11 Feb, 17/18 Feb). Due to losing so many weekends, the committee has adjusted the number of counting weeks to best 7 scores from 12 weeks. Hopefully the weather will be kind over the last three weekends but if there are any further lost weekends, the number of counting weeks may need to be reviewed again. Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 golfers in each division.
Division 1 Update:
Dave Kavanagh is still leading the way with 169 points, 10 points ahead of Cork man Danny Relihan and 12 points ahead of the Winter League specialist Paul Nimmo. It will be hard to catch Dave as he has been very consistent throughout the winter and the other lads will need to collect maximum points over the last 3 weekends to catch him.
Division 2 Update:
Gerry O’Connor is in pole position entering the final stretch on 164 points, 6 points ahead of Damien Guirke and 7 ahead of Jimmy Richardson. It will take a strong push from the chasing pack to dislodge Gerry with only 3 weekends remaining.
Division 3 Update:
Jim Reilly is the leader in Division 3 on 165 points, 7 ahead of Mick Corrigan and Brian Lynch on 158 points. A number of other players are only a further few points behind so with a strong finish, someone could jump out of the pack to land the title.
The winter league committee,
